Day 118
Woke around 8:30, blogged, had some coffee, pedaled out to meet Mike and Heather. Next we rode to a clandestine ticketing place and obtained three middle sleeper train tickets for 420 yuen each.
Afterwards, I took them to Royal Young Coffee to see if the staff had perfected the fry-up. They hadn't. Ingredients were still missing. And this time, they didn't bother to cook the eggs, but merely sear them, so all of us in turn sent our plate back to have them try again. We learned the picture in the menu of the classic fry-up was false advertising.
I finished first and to save us from the Celine Dion blasting on the hifi, I played a few songs on piano: "Novelty Rush (Bail Out)", "Blue Star," and "Steady." The staff behind the bar applauded each time I finished, and I modestly muttered, "Xie xie." It was really a test to see if all the progress made in the practice room could be repeated in a room full of strangers. It could and did. My voice wasn't it's peak, and the piano was made for Asian fingers, but I still pulled it off.
I headed back to my room while Mike and Heather went to go teach. I worked on writing out my lesson plans, chatted with Erin and Matt for a bit, then Matt and I took a cab to Dongzhou and tossed the frisbee around with Mike and Heather and the Dongzhou coach.
When the light faded to the point where the game was dangerous, we went inside, had some beer and then took Matt to the "blue pac-man" place for his first taste of fried dumplings.
We feasted, returned to Mike's room, watched "Envy" (so-so, but Christopher Walken is great, actually not doing a self-parody role for once.) Matt and I caught a cab back, retired. Nearly a sequel of the first day, with a little train ticket buying thrown in for productivity. But hey, I'm on holiday.
